ProRankings....What is it?
Simply put, ProRankings is a system that ranks professional bowlers.

It started in early 2002 as quick project to determine who the best players on tour were at that very moment. Over time it has evolved into a system that analyzes performances of every bowler who has participated in at least one of the last 20 PBA tournaments.

Unlike a point system, ProRankings is ongoing and never resets. It always analyzes the last 20 tournaments. Players rotate on and off the charts as they compete. The more a player competes and the better he does, the higher he climbs.

achieving a number one Ranking is not easy. Once a player breaks the top 10 it becomes a real test of consistency to continue to climb the charts. From November of 2002 through October 2005 there have only been six players who have achieved a #1 ranking:
  • Walter Ray Williams Jr. (30 tournaments at #1)
  • Chris Barnes (5 tournaments at #1)
  • Pete Weber (11 tournaments at #1)
  • Mika Koivuniemi (2 tournaments at #1)
  • Patrick Allen (7 tournaments at #1)
  • Tommy Jones (2 tournaments at #1)
The first year of the rankings system saw many adjustments to the algorithms used to determine rankings. I am satisfied that the system is now stable and produces consistent and reliable rankings.
